Colorado CD-5 Poll: Fawcett in the Hunt

New polling shows Democrat Jay Fawcett can win Colorado's 5th District. This is gigantic news - but not surprising in the least - and proves that  Bill Winter's poll numbers aren't a fluke.

The tide is turning in Colorado's electoral landscape. (That's kind of mixed metaphor, eh? Hope my English teacher doesn't read this. Everyone else? Read on! - Z)

Here's more from the Fawcett Campaign's newsletter:

Voters are outraged at the Republican Congress and overwhelmingly open to Air Force Lt. Colonel Jay Fawcett's candidacy: he can win the race in Colorado's 5th Congressional District.

Here are some of the most significant findings:

  • 70% disapprove of the job the Republican-led Congress is doing
  • Nearly 2 in 3 voters in Colorado's Fifth District would consider voting for a Democrat
  • 47% would already consider voting for Jay Fawcett in this year's election, with another third (35%) undecided.

What does the big guy say about this excellent news?

"The time is right to elect an independent-minded Democrat in this district. The numbers don't lie. The people of this district are looking for change and for different leaders to move our country and our state forward. From our fundraising, our grass roots support and now this poll, we continue to build momentum going into the summer." -- Jay Fawcett

Support Jay Fawcett. Let's turn this state so Blue they'll have nightmares about B.B. King and the L.A. Dodgers, and maybe even Picasso's "Blue" stage on top of the screaming night-sweats they'll have when we send Democrat Jay Fawcett to congress from Colorado's 5th.

(The telephone poll was conducted by Whitman Insight Strategies, among 400 likely voters in Colorado's Fifth Congressional District, with a margin of error of +/- 4.9%.) (Cross-posted at SoapBlox Colorado - Z)

That's great news, especially this early in the race.  These numbers are the sort that make this look like a year for a major shift across the country.

It's CD 6, not 5 (none / 0)

Great news, but don't get my hopes by saying that the CD 5, the district housing James Dobson's hometown of Colorado Springs, might go for the Democrats this year.  Tancredo and Fawcett are in CD 6 and closer to Denver.

uh, it's CD5 (none / 0)

Please ignore prior dumb post. It's CD5.

Re: uh, it's CD5 (none / 0)

Bill Winter is CD-6 going against Tancredo.

Fawcett is trying to replace Hefley - the guy that voted against a congressional resolution honoring FDR. (Yes, read that again if it didin't sink in. Against FDR.)

Yes they do.  They don't tell you who's actually going to win an election, but they are able to (and in this case do) give a very clear indication of how viable a candidate is.  It shows that, given the opportunity to make the case, this is a candidate who can win.
